Brookhaven Rotary, with the help of Georgia Power, has been instrumental in providing "I Care Cards" to Dekalb County Rotarians for distribution to children and adults with problems that cannot be handled within the family.

Each year the Brookhaven Rotary club co-sponsors a student from a foreign country. The Georgia Rotary Student Program ("GRSP") is a program is unique to Georgia. Brookhaven has had the privilege of sponsoring students from all over the world through this program. Like all Rotarian activities, it is the members who seem to be as enriched as those to whom we provide service and opportunities.

Brookhaven Rotary decorated a dorm room at the Atlanta Union Mission and also provided computer equipment for the establishment of a computer lab.

Each year the Club identifies a "Fireman of the Year" and a "Teacher of the Year" from DeKalb County. They are honored at a Monday meeting, receive a plaque and are recognized for their contribution to their community. The Teacher of the Year, together with the Teachers of the Year from other Rotary Clubs located in DeKalb County, is also honored at the yearly breakfast meeting of the DeKalb Rotary Council

Service Above Self

A look at some of the projects which Brookhaven Rotarians have been personally involved with.

Polio is an extremely destructive disease. It destroys lives and causes pain and anguish beyond comprehension. Rotary decided to take on Polio and make it a goal or Rotary to eradicate this disease. Together with other organizations across the World, Rotary is fighting, and winning the fight against Polio.

Brookhaven Rotary was extremely involved in this worthy District program which provided healthcare for the children of families and who were caught betwixt and between set governmental limits. Participating families incomes were above the maximum allowed under Federal Law to receive Medicare for their children, but are not enough to be able to pay for private health insurance. The Caring Program helps fill this gap, with the assistance of Rotary Clubs.

Brookhaven Rotary organizes a clean up of Murphy Candler Park in the Spring and Fall.

As a part of the Brookhaven Rotary Club's international service the club sent 250 tons of desperately needed school books to needy schools in Africa. Recipient countries have included Transkei, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Losotho and South Africa.
